What is remedial massage?

Remedial massage is widely regarded as a scientific and powerful form of manual soft tissue therapy, that effectively reduces your pain and restores function to your muscles, nerves, fascia and other connective tissues. In addition to this, it also enhances other systems in your body, which may have been impaired due to injury, dysfunction or overuse.

Varying degrees of appropriate hands-on pressure will be applied during your remedial massage, to improve the integrity and function of both muscles and your body as a whole, so you can immediately begin to feel the positive, powerful changes that so many of our clients enjoy every day.

What is relaxation massage?

Relaxation massage is all about relaxing. Its main focus is to give the client time to recover from the stresses of daily life. It helps de-stress & loosen up the body & is great at the end of a hard working week or if you just feel like treating yourself to a little TLC. It uses long smooth gliding strokes that sooth the soft tissue & encourage that release of stress physically & mentally. It is applied with pressure that is deeply relaxing, but not painful and combined with essential oils, warm towels & soft music to enhance the experience.

Massage is frequently used for a specific reason, such as stress reduction or pain relief, but whether it has a specific goal or not massage therapy helps to increase the general health & wellbeing of the recipient. For example, tension headaches cause the person to tighten the affected muscles even tighter which creates more pain. A thorough neck & shoulder massage can reduce this tension & break the pain cycle. So the goals of relaxation massage are to release the tension or knots that build up from tension & other aches & pains while improving circulation, reducing the stress by giving the person a feeling of well being that helps improve their sleep, energy levels and mood patterns such as anxiety, anger or depression.

What is cupping?

Cupping is a gentle and effective technique that aims to restore function, movement and flexibility to the soft tissue that connects the body’s muscles, cartilage, ligaments and tendons.

Derived from traditional Chinese medicine, cupping uses either heat or suction to create a vacuum effect in a glass or plastic cup, which is placed on the skin. The vacuum acts to gently lift the skin and underlying tissues, to break up cross linkages between the tissue layers that limit our flexibility. Cupping also promotes the hydration of these tissues to help prevent further cross linkages from forming.

It is not uncommon for clients to occasionally have residual marks, similar to bruising, from cupping, on the surface of their skin, but these are usually painless and will clear within 2 to 7 days. Cupping is a highly effective technique which you will find very gentle and highly enjoyable. Cupping is known to help activate the lymphatic system, promote blood circulation, and is extremely useful for deep tissue repair.

What is pregnancy massage?

*Must be 14 weeks gestation to be eligible for pregnancy massage.

Pregnancy Massage is a combination of relaxation massage and deep tissue. The massage therapist adapts their techniques to address changes a woman goes through during her pregnancy.

For instance, in the early stages the therapist will work on relaxing the body and loosening the muscles related to stress and tension. In the second trimester, the therapist will modify the technique to work on not only the upper body area, but focus more on the lower body region, hips and legs.

As the pregnancy progress to the third trimester the treatment will accommodate more flowing movements to move any problematic fluid areas, focus on the lower body region to loosen tight muscles in preparation for the birth, and may also incorporate the arms, hands and feet in the cases of swelling.

Pregnancy massage is tailored to exactly the areas that you and your therapist agree need to be relieved and is a great lifestyle inclusion to help optimise your wellness during this exciting time!

What is a Body Scrub?

A body scrub is a popular body treatment that is basically a facial for the body which focuses on exhilarating blood circulation by waking up the skin with a process of exfoliation, mud masque and body butter massaged into the skin to help cleanse, remove impurities and rebalance the body's skin pH level. This is a luxurious treatment with a bonus scalp massage with hair elixir, to promote hair growth and softness.

What is Ear Candling?

Ear Candling is a natural treatment that dates back to ancient times and cultures. Also known as ear coning, this relaxing therapy has been shown to help ease anxiety, stress, migraine, sore throats, ear pressure, imbalance and general aches and pains. Through the use of a hollow candle inserted into the ear, a flame is lit at one end, with the idea being that earwax and any other impurities are then drawn out by the heat of the candle flame.

What is Hot Stones?

Hot Stones combined with a full body massage provide a luxurious massage experience. Through the application of smooth stones to the body that have been heated in water, they have been shown to expand blood vessels, which encourages blood flow throughout the body and aids healing. Sedative effects that relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation have also been experienced. The heat from Hot Stones and a combination of personalised aromatherapy oil blends, penetrates through the skin into the blood stream thus giving the body the necessary nutrients it needs.
